Senior Adults Sunday School

Please join us Sunday mornings at 9 o’clock for our “Advanced Bible Study”.

Our current study, “Being an Authentic Church” will run from April 14, 2024 to May 19, 2024.

The following introduction comes from “Bible Studies for Life, Advanced Bible Study for Adults”, published by Lifeway:

“The church is sometimes called a building but it is not just a building. The church is a also a charitable organization but it is not just a charity. It’s more than a social group, voting block, or institution. It’s the living, growing body of Christ comprised of all who follow Jesus Christ as Lord.

Congregations across America are weak because many of us church members have lost the biblical understanding of what it means to be a part of the body of Christ…He [God} placed us in churches to serve, to care for others, to pray for leaders, to learn, to teach, to give, and, in some cases, to die for the sake of the gospel. In this study, we will rediscover what it means to be an authentic church and how you play a role.”

Our study will consist of the following lessons:

Previous Studies

Our study, “It’s All About Jesus” ran from March 3, 2024 to April 7, 2024.

The following introduction comes from “Bible Studies for Life, Advanced Bible Study for Adults”, published by Lifeway:

“To have real clarity, we must be vigilant about making sure we have clear lenses through which we see the world. Perhaps the same can be said in the way we view Jesus. Like it or not, all of us have a metaphorical
set of lenses through which we see everything. Those lenses are made up of our past experiences, our personal affiliations, and our opinions, and they can alter the way in which we see the world around
us. We must be careful, then, to make sure that our “life lenses” are clean. Nowhere is that more true than when we come to Jesus. If we’re not careful, we will begin to see Jesus as we might want Him to be
rather than how He actually is. In this journey through the book of Luke, we will seek to clean the lenses. We will try to see Jesus as He is truly presented, apart from outside influences, so that we might follow Him with greater devotion and clarity.”

Our study, “Owning a Faith That Matters” ran from January 14, 2024 to February 25, 2024.

The following introduction comes from “Bible Studies for Life, Advanced Bible Study for Adults”, published by Lifeway:

“Jesus said we only need the faith the size of a mustard seed. I’m not a mustard farmer, but that’s a pretty small seed. But if we have it, we can move mountains. We all need a little mountain moving in our lives when we think about the growing darkness in our world.

Faith is important to Jesus. We hear His voice throughout the gospels, challenging His disciples with a strong, determined voice to have faith. He asked Peter, “Where is your faith?” (Luke 8:25). When the disciples lost their courage in a storm, He called them “you of little faith” (Matt. 8:26). It wasn’t one of their brightest moments.

Jesus wants us to have faith, but not shallow faith that’s a mile wide and an inch deep. Throughout the Gospel of Luke, we’ll discover that He wants us to have deep faith.”

Our study consisted of the following lessons:

Our study, “A Name Like No Other” ran from December 3, 2023 to January 7, 2024.

The following introduction comes from “Bible Studies for Life, Advanced Bible Study for Adults”, published by Lifeway:

“Why should God’s name be important to us? God’s name is holy. We demonstrate respect for Him by the way we treat His name. In addition to the commandment not to take God’s name in vain (Ex. 20:7), Scriptures demonstrate how God acts for His name’s sake (Ps. 23:3; 25:11).

This study will help us understand how God’s name reveals His majestic nature. Because of His name, we can trust Him, worship Him, and pray to Him. Whoever calls on Jesus’s name will be saved. We appreciate the righteousness of His name. His name encourages us to trust Him with our well-being.”

Our study consisted of the following lessons:

Our study, “Confident in the Face of Hard Questions” ran from October 15, 2023 to November 19, 2023.

The following introduction comes from “Bible Studies for Life, Advanced Bible Study for Adults”, published by Lifeway:

“As Christians, we find ourselves in a position where simply knowing what we believe is not sufficient. We must now also know why we believe it and why what we believe is the truth.

This study looks at six prominent questions individuals in secular society use to attack the Christian faith. Additionally, this study gives believers a way of understanding why biblical beliefs are true, along with an apologetic for standing strong against the untruths hurled against them.

What the Bible teaches is true, and every Christian should put themselves in a position to express that truth in their words and through their daily lives.”

Our study lessons consisted of the following lessons:

Additional resource materials for our study, "Confident in the Face of Hard Questions."

Our study, “Staying True in a World Far From God”, ran from September 3, 2023 to October 8, 2023.

The following introduction comes from the “Bible Studies for Life, Advanced Bible Study for Adults”, published by Lifeway:

“Daniel in the lion’s den is but one snapshot from the life of a prophet who remained faithful when kings and companions challenged him to forsake God. The book of Daniel portrays him as unashamed, unwavering, and unwilling to compromise in his devotion to God.

One behavior that stands out to the reader is Daniel’s faithfulness in prayer. Another is his willingness to show courage. Daniel thus serves as a model for believers who want to stand strong today, despite the world’s disapproval and opposition – or even its resentfulness and animosity. Daniel remained unashamedly faithful; we can too.”

The Holy Land Season 2 with Dr. Jack Beck, Episode 3, “Where Jesus was tempted in the Desert”.

Our study this week focuses on Exodus 34:1 – 9. The main point is God never calls us to do something that is outside His character. It is helpful to look at the Exodus story for the background to this lesson. However, there is too much material to cover during a 50 minute class, so here are 3 Youtube videos that provide a good background on the Exodus story.
